Rev. Gina Barrow Pastor

Pastor Gina is an ordained elder in the North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. She has been pastoring churches in our conference for twenty-two years. Pastor Gina earned a B.S. in Religion at Mount Olive College, where she graduated summa cum laude in 2009, and an M.Div. at Duke University Divinity School in 2014. She is also a Rural Fellow alumna in the Duke Endowment’s Rural Ministry Program.

Pastor Gina is the daughter of James and Janice Heath Head of Snow Hill. She is married to Charles Barrow, and they will celebrate their fortieth wedding anniversary in October. Charles retired from NCSU as the Unit Manager of Horticultural Research at Central Crops Research Station in August 2022. He is also a commissioned Home Missioner for the North Carolina Conference of the UMC. His mission is called Food for Hungry Neighbors. He grows vegetables and delivers them to the NC Food Bank, soup kitchens, and community food pantries. Before moving to Carrboro, Charles was taking fresh vegetables to Greene County Interfaith and has plans to do that again. Charles has been involved in missions in Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Zambia, and Liberia in Africa and Ahuachapan, El Salvador in Central America.

Gina and Charles have three sons. Spencer, their youngest, is single and lives with his parents and his cat, Fraidy. Before the move back to Snow Hill, Spencer was employed at Wegmans in Chapel Hill. Tyler, their middle son, and his wife Cassi live in Eureka and have two sons, Caison (13) and Emmett (2). Tyler is a Judicial Service Coordinator in Lenoir County, and Cassi is a registered nurse working at Willow Creek Nursing and Rehab as a Certified Resident Assessment Coordinator. Dusty is their eldest son and lives in Greenville with his wife, Mary Lynn and their two children, Austin (7) and Callie (5). Dusty works for Brady Services as a Project Manager, and Mary Lynn is a Social Clinical Research Specialist with ECU Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.

Pastor Gina finds spiritual formation, including Lectio Divina and poetry, to be a great way to connect to God. She delights in the art of storytelling. She also enjoys time with her husband, especially in the mountains or at home cooking together, watching movies, listening to good books (she is a huge Harry Potter fan), playing cards or boardgames with her family and friends, and laughing with Spencer at the silliest of things. Gigi and Poppy/PaPa adore their grandchildren.

For Pastor Gina and Charles, coming home to Snow Hill is a wonderful opportunity for mission and ministry. Calvary Memorial is where Gina and Charles were married and where Gina discerned her call to ministry. They look forward to renewing old friendships and making many new friends at Calvary Memorial and in Snow Hill and Greene County. We look forward to welcoming them and their family and working together with them as God’s people in our community.

George Mewborn Organist

George Mewborn began playing the organ for worship services in the fall of 1970 when he was fourteen; he was recruited to play for the Snow Hill Presbyterian Church when its organist moved to another town. In 2020, George celebrated fifty years as a church organist and twenty-five years as organist for Calvary Memorial. In that time, he has played for thousands of worship services and hundreds of weddings and funerals, but no service is more special than the one planned for next Sunday!
